Ranking the Past 10 Super Bowls

(with a guess for where this one will land)

10: Super Bowl LIX - Eagles 40, Chiefs 22

This one was a snooze fest of explosive proportions. The Eagles took such an aggressive lead early on, there were hardly any moments of tension throughout the entire game.

Best moment: The Kendrick Lamar halftime show

9: Super Bowl LV - Buccaneers 31, Chiefs 9

Lack of competitive tension also plagued this Super Bowl. It edges out last year’s game though due the historical significance of Brady’s 7th ring, and the heroic (although hopeless) Patrick Mahomes performance behind a mutilated offensive line.

8: Super Bowl LIII - Patriots 13, Rams 3

Purists will defend this one for Bill Belichick’s fascinating dismantling of what had been an exceptional Rams offense. He completely altered the identity of this Patriots squad in the prep for this game, and the Rams had no answers. However, even the most hardcore fans can admit this one was slow-moving.

7: Super Bowl LIV - Chiefs 31, 49ers 20

Poor Jimmy G. This was the biggest sliding doors moment in his career. The missed deep throw in the 4th quarter not only lost the 49ers the game, but made him expendable to the organization. This one is significant for kicking off the Chiefs dynasty, but is probably the least interesting of their big wins.

6: Super Bowl LVI - Rams 23, Bengals 20

What a weird one! The Bengals miracle run capped off with a heroic effort against yet another team that had advantages in just about every area. It was thrilling watching Burrow problem solve whilst being outmanned, and it was satisfying seeing Stafford get his flowers. This was also hugely important for McVay, who redeemed himself after being pants’d by Belichick three years prior.

5: Super Bowl LVIII - Chiefs 25, 49ers 22

The rematch outpaced the original, as the Chiefs capped off their most unlikely run yet with an OT win. This one was competitive throughout and had a thrilling finish. I’m sure Shanahan wishes he had deferred in overtime. That decision will live in infamy as an early miscalculation in the new era of NFL overtime rules.

4: Super Bowl LX - Patriots 21, Seahawks 17 (predicted)

Call me optimistic but I think we are getting an all-time coaching classic here. The drama is high as Drake Maye looks to fulfill a ‘Chosen One’ type prophecy for NE fans who have prayed for a savior since the Brady departure, and Sam Darnold tries to complete the greatest redemption arc the league has ever seen. I predict it will be competitive throughout, and defined by big plays.

Best moment: Drake Maye will connect with Kyle Williams on a 60+ yard go-ball to clinch the game.

3: Super Bowl LVII - Chiefs 38, Eagles 35

Do you like scoring? This one was for you. Explosive plays, drama, controversy, ref ball. This one had it all. It’s a shame the sequel was such a let down.

2: Super Bowl LI- Patriots 34, Falcons 28

These next two could flip back and forth. This was the greatest moment for the greatest player in NFL history, and one of the craziest comeback stories in all of sports. When you go and watch this one back you still won’t believe it as its happening.

1: Super Bowl LII- Eagles 41, Patriots 33

This game got Nick Foles a statue in Philly. A career backup QB beat the GOAT of the sport at his own game at the absolute peak of his powers. This was live sports movie happening in real-time. And it had a little something for everyone - explosive scoring, the Philly special, a clutch defensive play to seal the game, DRAMA (why didn’t Malcolm Butler play in this game???). If we ever get another one to top this, it’ll be a miracle.
