Starts of the Week: Week 1 Starts and Sleepers

Quarterbacks

Start: Jaxson Dart (vs. Rams) was excellent in Week 1, scoring almost 27 fantasy points. The Rams (should) have a much more formidable defense than the Cowboys, but pretty much every game script favors Dart here. If this game is competitive, it’ll likely (pun intended) be because he played well. If this game is not competitive, he’ll be forced to throw more than he did in Week 1. You probably drafted him to play him, but here’s an extra push for you.

Start: Dak Prescott (vs. Commanders) underperformed for our lineups last week. But this week, he’s taking on a Washington defense that is unlikely to stop this strong offense. The WalterPicks app and I are projecting a bounce back for Dallas in Week 2 (Dak’s our QB9).

Sleeper: Geno Smith (vs. Packers) doesn’t necessarily project well. But that’s one of the reasons he’s a sleeper. Even though his fantasy output wasn’t stellar in Week 1, he played well. In Week 2, his game script is going to be much different. The Packers’ offense will score more than the Titans did (not hard to do). This creates a situation conducive to Geno airing the ball out more frequently. (I get it, this one is unlikely to be relevant for any of your typical lineups. But, in 2QB or SuperFlex leagues, he’s worth a shot).

Running Backs

Start: Jadarian Price (vs. Cardinals) saw less work than his fantasy managers would have hoped in Week 1. However, there’s a good opportunity in front of him in Week 2. Drew Lock will be playing QB for Seattle, and the Cardinals are 1-0 in their own right. The Seahawks need to give the ball to their best players. This means manufacturing touches to JSN, and handing the ball to their best RB. Price has an 8% chance to BOOM this week (score 25 or more PPR points).

Start: Aaron Jones (vs. Bears) is in THE ideal spot in Week 2. The Bears’ defense is truly dreadful, and with Jordan Mason going on IR, a majority of the backfield work is going to go Jones direction. On top of that, Carson Wentz is likely going to be playing QB in this game. Dump-offs will be plentiful, and opportunities should be there in a game where the Vikings will have to keep up. Ignore the beard.

Sleeper: Kaelon Black (vs. Dolphins) saw 15 touches in his debut, more than anyone could’ve expected. In a matchup where the Niners are massive favorites, Black is in line for work throughout this game’s entirety. He also has a shot at goal line touches in the second half of this game. Black is not a bad player to take a shot on.

Wide Receivers

Start: Emeka Egbuka (vs. Browns) is facing a Browns team that just got torched by Parker Washington. Egbuka and Washington possess similar skill sets, and the Bucs are going to be able to accomplish whatever they want in this game. One of my takes on TikTok this week was that Egbuka finishes as a top-15 WR (he’s currently ranked as our WR22).

Start: Matthew Golden (vs. Jets) saw 12 targets against the Vikings, and he turned them into six receptions for almost 100 yards. He’s explosive, and is in a matchup I project to be sneakily competitive. He’s a must-start in 12-team leagues.

Sleeper: Caleb Douglas (vs. 49ers) lead all rookies in yards and receptions in Week 1, and he’s going to be in a game script where the Dolphins are forced to throw. He looked sharp, and is in line for a high-quality target share. Don’t sleep on the Miami WR1.

Tight Ends

Start: Colston Loveland (vs. Vikings) may be an obvious start, but many fantasy players appear to be deeply concerned about his Week 1 goose egg. However, he played 87% of snaps, had an end zone target, and is going to see more work moving forward. Don’t be surprised if the Bears force him the ball in an effort to make a point.

Sleeper: T.J. Hockenson (vs. Bears) had four receptions for 36 yards and a TD in Week 1, and is taking on a Bears team that gave up 6 receptions for over 60 yards to the Panthers TE trio of Darren Waller, Tommy Tremble, and Mitchell Evans. Hockenson is better than those guys, and Wentz is going to rely on him as the Vikings attempt to keep up with Chicago.

YOU KNOW FANTASY. NOW TRADE THE NFL.

You know which players are about to break out. Which contenders are overrated. Which preseason darling is three bad weeks from becoming a cautionary tale.

On Polymarket, those opinions have a price. This isn’t the old way of making a pick. It’s a prediction market where you trade against other fans and can exit your position before the market closes. Trade on everything from division winners and championship contenders to MVP, passing leaders and the season’s top fantasy quarterback, running back and receiver. Take your position, and trade on what happens next.

My Favorite Week 2 Storylines

  • Can the Giants sustain their Week 1 success against a much tougher Rams defense?

  • Are the Colts absolutely cooked? Pat Mahomes looked pretty good 👀

  • The Patriots offense without A.J. Brown against the Steelers defense - Will Drake Maye bounce back?

  • Are the Broncos okay???

  • Can the Bears score lots of points against a Brian Flores defense?

  • Can any of the Falcons players (not named Bijan Robinson) do anything at all whatsoever by any means at all???

  • The Cardinals facing the Drew Lock Seahawks

  • Can the Eagles offense look good against a terrible Titans defense?

My Favorite Upset Pick of Week 2

Jaguars to beat the Broncos on the road

Odds: +124

Spread: DEN -2.5

Reasoning: You’re reading this correctly. After that Week 1 debacle, the Broncos are somehow favored here. I get it. They’re at home. But, they looked beyond broken while the Jaguars looked as fine-tuned as any team in the NFL. This one feels unfair to take, but I’m an opportunist.
