Start 'Em Up: Week 16 Starts and Sleepers

Quarterbacks

Start: Jared Goff (vs. Steelers) is facing the Steelers, who allow the 7th most fantasy points per game. They are also allowing more than 260 passing yards per game, which is the 3rd worst. The Steelers have allowed 7 QBs to go over 20 points, which bodes very well for one of the most underrated QBs in the NFL.

Start: Jacoby Brissett (vs. Falcons) has been a top-12 fantasy QB in all nine games he has started. Atlanta has allowed 4 of the last 5 QBs they’ve faced to score 20 fantasy points, and this game script is conducive to Brissett success. Don’t overthink it.

Sleeper: Tyler Shough (vs. Jets) has scored 18 or more points in his last three games, and now, he is going against the Jets, a team that just allowed Trevor Lawrence to score 6 touchdowns. The Jets have not record an interception this entire season, and they allow the fifth most passing touchdowns per game. Shough is a sleeper, but one I am confident in.

Running Backs

Start: Quinshon Judkins (vs. Bills) is in a tough game script, but Buffalo allows 26 PPR points per game to the RB position, and they are dead last in rushing TDs allowed. They are also allowing 5 yards per carry. If the rookie can get into the end zone, he has the potential to provide our lineups with a great performance.

Start: Aaron Jones (vs. Giants) is taking on the worst tackling team in league, and they are second worst in the entire NFL against opposing RB fantasy points. This game script is one that Aaron Jones has the potential to take strong advantage of.

Sleeper: Michael Carter (vs. Falcons) is a desperation option. Facing the falcons, Carter will catch passes and likely see substantial carries against the Falcons run funnel defense. If you are in a bad spot with injuries, consider Michael Carter.

Wide Receivers

Start: Ladd McConkey (vs. Cowboys) is facing the Cowboys, the team that allows the MOST points to WRs. He has been disappointing, but if there was ever an opportunity to get right, it is this week against Dallas.

Start: Jayden Reed (vs. Bear) has had two decent performances (9 or more PPR points) since returning, and I expect him to perform well against the Bears, who allow the 10th most points to WRs. Reed has a massive ceiling in a game with the utmost importance.

Sleeper: Jalen Coker (vs. Buccaneers) has scored 14 or more PPR points in two straight games, and now is facing a poor Bucs defense that just lost Zion McCollum, one of their better corners. He’s a flex option in 12 team leagues.

Tight Ends

Start: Mark Andrews (vs. Patriots) is facing the Patriots, a team that’s primary defensive weakness has consistently been the tight end position. Andrews has great TD potential in a game where the Ravens will be forced to throw more than they typically do.

Sleeper: Evan Engram (vs. Jaguars) is in a revenge game with the Jaguars. Jacksonville is 6th worst against opposing TEs, and he is someone that possesses a high ceiling in a crucial matchup for both teams.

Things to Watch Closely for Fantasy this Week

  • Lamar Jackson against the Patriots in a crucial AFC contest

  • Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison against the Giants secondary

  • The Steelers rushing attack against the Lions top-tier run defense.

  • Trevor Lawrence against the Broncos’ elite defense

  • The Texans defense against the Raiders LOL

  • Tyler Shough in an amazing matchup with the Jets absymal defense

  • Bears vs. Packers

  • Can Josh Allen’s MVP campaign gain more momentum?

DFS Favorites

These are some of the players Walter recommends prioritizing in your FanDuel and DraftKings lineups.

QB: JJ McCarthy, FD price: $6,500 DK Price: $4,900, is in a fantastic matchup with the Giants, who rank 29th against QBs. He offers some rushing, and he also has been playing better since returning. Consider Nine in your DFS lineups.

RB: Bijan Robinson, FD Price: $9,600 DK Price: $8,700, is our highest value RB, and he is also very expensive. But those two factors combined make Bijan Robinson someone that we need to get into a ton of our lineups as he takes on the Cardinals.

WR: Jameson Williams, FD Price: $6,700 DK Price: $6,400, has a massive ceiling against the Steelers’ poor secondary. He is the perfect type of player you want to have in your DFS lineup.

TE: Brenton Strange, FD Price: $5,300 DK Price: $3,900, is going against the Broncos, whose one defensive weakness may be the tight end position. If the Jaguars want to remotely replicate what they did against the Jets, Strange will need to be involved. He is fairly priced.

My Favorite Upset Pick of Week 16

Chargers to cover the 2.5 spread on the road against the Cowboys

Odds: +105

Spread: DAL -2.5

Reasoning: The Chargers are playing meaningful football, and keep finding ways to win games. Now, they are taking on a weak Cowboys defense in Dallas, who have a less than 1% chance to make the playoffs. I believe the Chargers offense will explode this week.
