The Big Stuff

The WalterPicks Projections Team was very high on RJ Harvey after landing with the Broncos, and the inclination is that this signing will affect the other Broncos RBs more than Harvey.

Projections before Dobbins signing (PPR points per game):

• Harvey: 14.4

• Estime: 3.1

• McLaughlin: 5.4

After Dobbins Signing:

• Harvey: 13.5

• Estime: 1.6

• McLaughlin: 3.0

• Dobbins: 4.8

While this vastly diminishes the possibility of a workhorse role for Harvey, the Dobbins signing may actually give him more draft value. We will be watching to see how far his ADP drops. 

Could be something, could be nothing…

This far out from the season it can be difficult to parse what stories will have a meaningful impact on the NFL season. Here are some stories we are monitoring: 

• The Texans signed Nick Chubb to a 1-year deal worth up to $5 million. The Texans were dead last in rush success last season… perhaps Chubb can be revived.

• James Cook will be attending training camp despite being absent from OTAs/mini camp and calling for a new contract.

• J.K. Dobbins visited the Broncos on Thursday

• Colts QB Anthony Richardson continues to rest with the shoulder injury and is seeking outside medical opinions. There is no timetable for his return.

• Terry McLaurin continues to be absent from Commanders team activites

This is section where I plan on highlighting something non-football related each week. It could be a movie, a podcast, a story from another sport, a book, a concept etc. Its an experiment really in an effort to add more personality to the piece and expand my repertoire as a writer (personally).

The Greatest Catch I’ve Ever Seen?!

I promise these won’t all be baseball related. But my goodness…

Denzel Clarke has become my obsession this week. THE catch against the Angels is the thing that put him on my radar but he has had several all timers in only a few weeks in the big leagues.

The flash is translating into impact in the analytics as well. Through 16 games played he was already tied for third amongst outfielders in Outs Above Average (a cumulative stat).

These numbers are absurd. The frequency of jaw dropping plays for a defensive outfielder is absurd. Denzel Clarke is absurd. I’m locked in.
