Power Ranking Head Coach Hires

Klint Kubiak
All of the Head Coach vacancies have been filled - Here’s how I rank them from worst to best.
10: Joe Brady - Buffalo Bills
Why?
This hire made no sense. 😅
The Bills owner attributed Buffalo’s postseason failures to this current iteration of the coaching staff - so their answer was to promote the current Offensive Coordinator to Head Coach? Outside of a few hook and ladders, Joe Brady’s play-calling wasn’t overly creative - and was not among the elite in the league.
9: Todd Monken - Cleveland Browns
Why?
Cleveland’s plan didn’t work. 🙃
It was obvious that the Browns didn’t want to part ways with their current Defensive Coordinator, Jim Schwartz - so much so that he was one of the finalists for their HC position. Cleveland decided to gamble on hiring Todd Monken - hoping Schwartz would stay on as the DC.
This is not what happened - Jim Schwartz is gone. Now their franchise is in the hands of a 60 year old, first time Head Coach. Monken’s a good play-caller, but with the team’s options at QB it doesn’t feel like there’s much of a ceiling here.
8: Mike McCarthy - Pittsburgh Steelers
Why?
The Steelers went from Mike Tomlin to offensive-minded Mike Tomlin. 🫠
Don’t get it twisted - Mike Tomlin is one of the greatest coaches of recent memory. But, he had hit a wall as the Steelers’ coach. Pittsburgh was a lock for a first-round exit with him - which is what Mike McCarthy has been doing with his teams for the last 10 years. McCarthy is not a bad coach, but someone that provides little ceiling for this franchise.
I would’ve liked a bigger swing.
7: Jeff Hafley - Miami Dolphins
Why?
Hafley is a somewhat unknown, and I like the candidates ahead of him more.
If the Dolphins wanted a defensive coach - I would have liked them to bring in Chris Shula instead (assuming he was interested) who has consistently gotten lots of production out of young players in LA. Hafley’s Green Bay defense melted after Micah Parsons got hurt - and Hafley was not a very good college Head Coach.
It’ll be a long road for Hafley to find success with the Dolphins.

Kevin Stefanski
6: Kevin Stefanski - Atlanta Falcons
Why?
He raises the floor of a team with massive question marks at QB. 😉
While I still don’t love this hire, the NFC South remains pretty open - and I can certainly foresee him leading this team to some division titles. I struggle to envision him hoisting a Lombardi Trophy in Atlanta, but the Falcons need to get back to finishing with winning records first.
Stefanski can do that for the Falcons.
5: Robert Saleh - Tennessee Titans
Why?
I like this hire a bit more than Kevin Stefanski. 🤣
Saleh got a lot out of a little in San Fran this season - and he’s going to bring a much-needed swagger to the Tennessee Titans. The personnel concerns me, but the hire of Brian Daboll as Offensive Coordinator was an excellent get.
Also - we get to revisit the beef between Robert Saleh and Liam Coen twice a year.
4: Mike LaFleur - Arizona Cardinals
Why?
LaFleur is a far better hire than anyone could’ve expected from Arizona. 😁
In an Arizona world where candidates like Vance Joseph, Ron Rivera, and Raheem Morris were finalists - securing Mike LaFleur is a massive win. He’s been under Kyle Shanahan and Sean McVay, which is as good of a learning experience as you can ask for. He’s also related to one of the better coaches in the entire NFL, Matt LaFleur.
🔥 Hot Take: LeFleur could end up being the best hire from this cycle.
3: John Harbaugh - New York Giants
Why?
John Harbaugh brings leadership and structural change to a franchise in desperate need of it. 😍
Harbaugh feels like the candidate the G-Men needed most - and they got him. His resume speaks for itself. Giants fans are clamoring for a 9-8 season at this point.
If Harbaugh can’t get this franchise back on track - nobody can.

2: Klint Kubiak - Las Vegas Raiders
Why?
Kubiak has the lineage - and he’s been under some of the best coaches in the league.
This was one of the last hires, but it was one of the best. Kubiak has the Seattle offense humming - and he now finds himself on an offense that’ll have a foundation of Fernando Mendoza, Ashton Jeanty, and Brock Bowers.
The toughest division in football just got even tougher.
1: Jesse Minter - Baltimore Ravens
Why?
The hottest name in the cycle went to the best opening.
Minter is going to bring a much-needed fierceness to this Ravens defense - and he’s already begun hiring a great staff. If Declan Doyle pans out as OC, the Ravens are going to be a problem.
Is it crazy to say Minter could be the next Mike McDonald?

John Collins over 4.5 Rebounds at -135 on BetMGM
Why?
Collins has exceeded this mark in 4 of his last 5 games, and this game is expected to be very competitive.
This game also has one of the lowest O/Us of the night - likely indicating a lack of good offense being played. This will open up more opportunities for John Collins to grab some boards.
Philly is 5th-worst against opposing PF rebounds, and Collins is averaging over 10 rebound chances per game.
The value of this prop on BetMGM is undeniable.

Fun Fact: I was at the game where that photo was taken :)
