🏈 4 Top-20 Players to Pump the Brakes On

Analysis about some high end draft picks that we are NOT very bullish on for a variety of reasons.

1. A.J. Brown

We are against drafting A.J. Brown at his current ADP. He is one of the most talented wide receivers in the NFL, but he is on a team with some of the lowest passing volume. Jalen Hurts was 34th in the NFL last season in completions per game with 16.5. It is important to note that there are only 32 teams in the NFL! In Brown’s range, we prefer taking players with better chances of finishing within the top five at their position such as Chase Brown, Ladd McConkey, and Bucky Irving.

ADP: WR10
Walter's Rank: WR12

2. Mike Evans

Our apprehension with Mike Evans arises from a few important factors. Firstly, Evans is 32 years old. We know how good he has been throughout his entire career, but this season he has the most competition for targets of his career. Bucky Irving, Rachaad White, Cade Otton, Emeka Egbuka, Jalen McMillan, and Chris Godwin (when he returns) are all very effective pass-catchers that he will have to contend with on a weekly basis. Where he is going, we would rather target players like Trey McBride, Breece Hall, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

ADP: WR19
Walter's Rank: WR17 (but he has a low ceiling of WR12)

3. Kyren Williams

Kyren Williams is on a team that has drafted backup running backs two years in a row. Blake Corum has not garnered much praise, but the Rams staff seems very bullish on their newest rookie running back, Jarquez Hunter. Any volume that Hunter or Corum siphon from Williams will hinder his upside a bit. Last season, the Rams were in the bottom half of the NFL in utilization of running backs in the passing game and in designed running back targets. We prefer players like Breece Hall or Trey McBride at this spot of the draft.

ADP: RB10
Walter's Rank: RB14

4. Brock Bowers

Brock Bowers is already one of the top tight ends in the NFL, and we have him projected as our top tight end. The reason we are avoiding him boils down to opportunity cost. Where Bowers is going, players like Brian Thomas Jr., De'Von Achane, Bucky Irving, and Drake London are available. We do not believe taking Bowers is worth missing out on any of those other players. If you are looking to take an elite tight end, we recommend waiting a few rounds and taking Trey McBride or George Kittle, both of which are projected within one point of Bowers and have the same ceiling of TE1.

ADP: TE1
Walter's Rank: TE1
