Monday Night Football Preview

Matchup: Minnesota Vikings @ Chicago Bears

Time: 8:15 PM ET

Where to Watch: ABC/ESPN

Spread: MIN -1.5

Total: 43.5

Things to Pay Attention to on MNF

  • Bears’ backfield distribution (who sees the most work behind D’Andre Swift)

  • J.J. McCarthy’s performance as a whole (can he sustain multiple viable fantasy options?)

  • Target distribution for the Bears

  • Who’s the Vikings WR2 behind Justin Jefferson while Jordan Addison is serving his suspension

Fantasy Risers After Week 1:

Kayshon Boutte:

Kayshon Boutte recorded six receptions across eight targets and had over 100 receiving yards, which led the Patriots. Given his preseason hype and this performance, it is reasonable to project Boutte as a consistent option moving forward.

Travis Etienne Jr:

Travis Etienne Jr. saw the vast majority of touches among Jacksonville running backs, tallying 19 total touches for over 150 all-purpose yards. He is a must-start moving forward, assuming this workload distribution continues.

Bill Croskey-Merritt:

Bill Croskey-Merritt lived up to the hype in Week 1 against a dreadful Giants defense. He had a rush for 42 yards, and he scored a touchdown while the game was still competitive. He is a very interesting option moving forward, especially considering Chris Rodriguez was a healthy scratch in this game.

Daniel Jones:

Giants fans look away. Indiana Jones was essentially perfect in his Colts debut, totaling nearly 300 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns. It is unlikely that he is this good every week, but his rushing ability and goal line potential make him an enticing fantasy option, especially in 2 QB leagues.

Chris Olave:

Chris Olave was slept on a good bit throughout the offseason, and he did not put up a huge stat line in Week 1. But he saw 13 targets from Spencer Rattler, recording seven receptions for 54 yards. On a team that should often be losing, Olave may be an interesting buy in fantasy leagues.

Fantasy Fallers After Week 1:

Tyrone Tracy Jr.:

The Giants offensive line looked as bad as ever in Week 1, and it showed in Tracy's Week 1 performance. He ran 10 times for 24 yards, and did not look impressive on any of his runs. As long as the Giants continue to play this poorly, Tracy needs to stay on the bench, especially considering their difficult schedule.

Jaylen Waddle:

Jaylen Waddle was not impressive in Week 1, and neither was the Dolphins offense. If this week was a sign of things to come, Waddle's projection is likely to dip on a weekly basis, particularly against effective defenses.

Cooper Kupp:

Cooper Kupp fell way behind JSN in the pecking order in Week 1. The former Ram saw three targets, while Smith-Njigba saw 13. Kupp is best left on the bench until we are given a reason to start him.

Evan Engram:

Evan Engram snagged three catches in Week 1 before suffering a calf injury. Even if he is healthy for Week 2, he is not someone that will project highly. Troy Franklin, Courtland Sutton, and Tyler Badie had more targets than he did. For now, we recommend finding a different option at the position.

Jameson Williams:

Jameson Williams may have just signed an extension, but his usage in Week 1 was a bit concerning. He is typically been a dominant deep threat, but he garnered four receptions for 23 yards against a stout Packers defense. This could be a one-off. But if the new Detroit offensive coordinator is looking to use Jamo differently, he could provide far less boom games than we have been accustomed to.

Waiver Wire Recommendations

Harold Fannin Jr:

Harold Fannin was excellent in his NFL debut. He caught seven passes, saw nine targets, and outperformed David Njoku. He even ran the ball once. He is clearly someone the Browns want to involve, and Joe Flacco can certainly get the ball to him. He is worth adding in leagues with 10 or more teams.

Hollywood Brown:

With Xavier Worthy suffering a dislocated shoulder, and Rashee Rice still serving his suspension, Hollywood Brown quickly becomes the top wide receiver on the Chiefs. He had 10 receptions for 99 yards against the Chargers, incl1p.

Jaxson Dart:

In deep leagues, Jaxson Dart is someone to consider adding. Brian Daboll was noncommittal to whether or not Russell Wilson would start next week, which says a lot about how the team feels right now. Dart has mobility, which is conducive to fantasy football success. He is worth a speculative add in leagues with two quarterbacks.

Quentin Johnston:

Quentin Johnston looked fantastic in Week 1, finishing with five receptions for 79 yards and two touchdowns. The Chargers passing attack looked incredible, and if that continues, more games like these should be on the way for the former Horned Frog. He is worth adding in 12-team leagues.
